The gateway to Jagannātha Dhāma

A living sacred landscape, a library of its traditions

Jagannātha Dhāma is the sacred Puruṣottama Kṣetra of Nīlācala—known through the names Śrīkṣetra, Puruṣottama and Puri. It is at once a temple, a pilgrimage field, a centre of Vaiṣṇava devotion, and a living cultural tradition of Odisha.

This gateway brings the whole field together for study: Purāṇic māhātmyas, Sanskrit verses, temple traditions, festivals, sacred geography, deities, rituals, history and the many voices that have carried Jagannātha’s worship through time. Texts and historical claims are kept distinct, with provenance shown wherever a source is available.

Our primary reading experience is built from stored editions and database records. Government and temple information is used for historical and institutional context; scriptural passages are presented as textual sources, not as modern historical claims. Where editions differ, the edition and editorial status will be identified.
